Measure the basmati rice
Rinse the rice 3–4 times until the water runs mostly clear
Soak the rice for 20–30 minutes
Drain the soaked rice
Add rice to the rice cooker
Add water in a 1:1.25 to 1:1.5 rice-to-water ratio
Add salt if desired
Add a little oil or ghee if desired
Close the lid
Select the white rice or regular cook setting
Let the rice cook until the cycle ends
Keep the rice on warm for 5–10 minutes
Fluff the rice gently with a fork
Serve immediately
