How To Prepare For Mammogram?

Schedule your mammogram for a time when your breasts are least likely to be tender, often about one week after your period starts

Tell the imaging center if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have breast implants

Bring any prior mammogram images or records if requested

Do not use deodorant, antiperspirant, powder, lotion, or perfume on your underarms or breasts on the day of the exam

Wear a two-piece outfit so you can remove only your top

Remove necklaces and other jewelry before the exam

Follow any specific instructions from your doctor or the imaging center

Take pain relief only if your doctor says it is okay

Let the technologist know if you have breast pain, skin changes, or a lump

Arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork and check in

Relax your shoulders and breathe normally during the exam

Inform the technologist if you feel discomfort during positioning
