Cut a healthy stem 4–6 in (10–15 cm) long with at least 1–2 nodes
Remove leaves from the bottom 1–2 in (2–5 cm) so nodes are exposed
Water propagation:
Place the cut end in a glass of water, keeping nodes submerged and leaves above water
Change the water every 3–7 days
Wait for roots to form (typically 2–6 weeks)
Transplant into soil when roots are a few inches long
Soil propagation:
Fill a pot with a well-draining mix (potting mix + perlite)
Insert the cutting so at least 1 node is buried
Water lightly until evenly moist
Keep lightly moist while roots form (typically 3–6 weeks)
Optional rooting hormone:
Dip the cut end or exposed nodes into rooting hormone before placing in water or soil
Aftercare:
Provide bright, indirect light
Keep temperatures warm and stable
Avoid letting cuttings sit in soggy soil or stagnant water
