How to Put an SSD in a Desktop?

Power off the desktop

Unplug the power cable

Press the power button for a few seconds to discharge residual power

Open the computer case

Ground yourself to avoid static electricity

Locate an available 2.5-inch drive bay or mounting point

If needed, use a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch adapter bracket

Mount the SSD securely in the bay or bracket

Connect a SATA data cable from the SSD to a motherboard SATA port

Connect a SATA power cable from the power supply to the SSD

Close the computer case

Plug the power cable back in

Turn on the desktop

Enter BIOS or UEFI if needed and confirm the SSD is detected

Install or clone the operating system if the SSD is new

Set the SSD as the boot drive if it will hold the operating system
