Park on a flat, safe area away from traffic
Set the parking brake
Put the vehicle in park or in gear
Lay the chains out flat and untangled
Identify the correct drive tires
Drape the chains evenly over the top of the tire
Center the chains on the tire tread
Connect the inside fastener first
Connect the outside fastener next
Tighten the chains according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Move the vehicle forward a short distance
Recheck chain position and tighten again if needed
Drive slowly
Stop and inspect the chains after a short distance
Remove the chains when no longer needed and store them dry
