Keep calm and avoid sudden movements
Close the room doors to limit its movement
Open an exterior door or window for an escape route
Turn off indoor lights and turn on an outdoor light near the exit
Use a broom, cardboard, or a long stick to gently guide it toward the exit
Cover it with a container if it is easy to reach
Slide a stiff piece of cardboard under the container
Carry the container outside and release the lizard away from the house
Wear gloves if you need to handle anything near it
Check for gaps, cracks, and open vents where it may have entered
Seal openings around doors, windows, pipes, and screens
Reduce insects indoors to make the house less attractive to lizards
Keep food sealed and surfaces clean
Call a local animal control or wildlife professional if you cannot remove it safely
