Turn off the water supply to the bathtub
Cover the drain to prevent losing small parts
Inspect the spout for a set screw underneath or on the side
If there is a set screw, loosen it with the correct Allen wrench
Pull the spout straight off the pipe after loosening the set screw
If there is no set screw, check whether the spout is threaded onto the pipe
Wrap the spout with a cloth and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it
If the spout is stuck, use a strap wrench or apply penetrating oil
Slide the spout off the pipe once it is loose
Clean the pipe threads or stub-out after removal
Inspect the pipe for damage before installing a new spout
