Turn off the ceiling fan and switch off the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the light kit, fan blades, and decorative covers if needed
Support the fan with one hand or have someone hold it
Remove the canopy screws and lower the canopy
Disconnect the wire connectors
Remove the mounting bracket screws
Lower the fan from the ceiling
Cap the exposed wires with wire nuts
Secure the wires inside the electrical box
Remove the mounting bracket if desired
Install a blank cover or new fixture if needed
