Take the clothes outside and brush off any loose mold
Wear gloves and a mask
Wash the item separately from other laundry
Use the hottest water safe for the fabric
Add laundry detergent
Add white vinegar or baking soda if the fabric allows
Soak heavily moldy clothes before washing
Run an extra rinse cycle
Dry the clothes completely in direct sunlight if possible
Repeat washing if mold remains
Use bleach only on bleach-safe white fabrics
Discard items that are badly damaged or still smell moldy after washing
