Clear the room of all furniture and obstacles
Turn off power to nearby outlets if needed
Remove baseboards or trim if they cover the flooring edges
Cut the vinyl into manageable strips or sections with a utility knife
Lift a corner of the vinyl with a putty knife or floor scraper
Pull up the vinyl slowly while using the scraper to loosen stubborn areas
Remove any adhesive residue with a floor scraper or adhesive remover
Pull up underlayment or padding if present
Remove staples, nails, or tack strips from the subfloor
Sweep and vacuum the subfloor thoroughly
Dispose of the removed vinyl according to local waste rules
