Use over-the-counter earwax softening drops as directed on the label
Place a few drops of mineral oil, baby oil, glycerin, or hydrogen peroxide ear drops in the ear if appropriate
Let the drops sit for a few minutes while keeping the head tilted
Gently rinse the ear with warm water using a bulb syringe if instructed by a pharmacist or doctor
Tilt the head to let water and wax drain out
Dry the outer ear with a clean towel
Repeat for a few days if needed and if symptoms are mild
Stop and seek medical care if you have ear pain, drainage, fever, dizziness, hearing loss, a history of ear surgery, or a perforated eardrum
Do not use cotton swabs, hairpins, or other objects inside the ear
See a doctor or audiologist for safe removal if the wax is hard, impacted, or keeps coming back
