Choose the right time: repot after flowering ends and when new roots begin to grow
Gather materials: new orchid pot, orchid bark mix (or suitable medium), sharp sterile scissors, gloves (optional), stakes (optional), watering can, tray or basin
Soak the orchid and medium lightly to loosen roots (or water the day before)
Remove the orchid from its pot by gently sliding it out
Loosen old medium from roots carefully
Trim dead or rotted roots (brown/mushy) with sterile scissors
Remove any old, hollow, or shriveled pseudobulbs if present
Rinse roots if needed and let the plant sit briefly to allow trimmed areas to dry (a few minutes to up to an hour)
Select a pot size: use a pot only slightly larger than the root mass
Add a small amount of fresh medium to the bottom of the pot
Position the orchid so the base (crown) sits at or slightly above the rim level of the pot
Fill around roots with fresh medium, pressing lightly to settle without compacting hard
Leave air spaces in the medium around roots
If needed, insert a stake and tie the plant loosely
Water thoroughly after repotting (until water runs freely from drainage holes)
Place in bright, indirect light and maintain typical orchid conditions
Avoid fertilizing for about 2–4 weeks after repotting
Monitor for new root growth and adjust watering as the plant re-establishes
Discard any remaining old medium and clean tools after use
