Turn off the thermostat
Switch off power to the HVAC system at the breaker if needed
Remove the thermostat cover or batteries if applicable
Wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes
Reinstall the batteries or cover
Restore power to the HVAC system
Press the reset button if your thermostat has one
Follow the thermostat’s menu to select reset or factory reset
Reprogram the date, time, and settings if required
Check that heating and cooling respond correctly
