Check whether the chat is archived instead of deleted
Search the conversation by the other person’s name or username
Ask the other person to send screenshots or copy the messages
Download your Instagram data from Accounts Center
Open Instagram
Go to Settings and privacy
Go to Accounts Center
Select Your information and permissions
Select Download your information
Request a copy of your data
Choose the Instagram account
Select Messages or Direct messages
Submit the request and wait for the download link
Review the downloaded file for chat history
Check email notifications for message previews if enabled
Restore from a phone backup if the messages were saved there
Check linked devices where the chat may still be visible
Contact Instagram Support if the chat was lost due to an account issue
Use third-party recovery tools only if they are trusted and legitimate
Accept that permanently deleted Instagram chats may not be recoverable
