How to Reupholster a Sofa?

Remove cushions, pillows, and any detachable parts

Photograph the sofa from all angles for reference

Remove the existing fabric carefully with a seam ripper or staple remover

Label each fabric piece as you remove it

Inspect the frame, springs, and padding for damage

Repair or replace broken wood, webbing, springs, or foam

Use the old fabric pieces as templates for new fabric

Measure and cut the new upholstery fabric

Cut matching pieces for cushions, arms, back, and skirt if needed

Attach new batting or foam where necessary

Position the new fabric on the sofa frame

Pull the fabric tight and staple it to the frame

Work from the center outward on each section

Fold corners neatly and secure them with staples

Reattach welting, piping, or trim if applicable

Upholster cushions separately and zip or sew them closed

Trim excess fabric and secure loose edges

Reassemble the sofa

Check for wrinkles, gaps, and uneven tension

Make final adjustments as needed
