Remove ripe fruit, onions, potatoes, and other produce from countertops
Store produce in the refrigerator or sealed containers
Empty kitchen trash and recycling regularly
Clean trash cans with soap and hot water
Wipe down counters, sinks, and spills immediately
Rinse dishes and do not leave them in the sink
Clean drains with boiling water, baking soda, and vinegar
Scrub sink drains and garbage disposals
Fix leaky pipes and standing water sources
Check for damp sponges, mops, and dish towels
Replace old dish sponges and wash cloths
Vacuum or wipe up crumbs and food residue
Seal food in airtight containers
Set out apple cider vinegar traps
Place a bowl of vinegar with a drop of dish soap near the problem area
Use sticky traps near windows, sinks, and trash areas
Keep windows and doors closed or use screens
Inspect houseplants for fungus gnats and let soil dry out
Remove overwatered plant saucers and standing water
Clean under appliances and behind cabinets
Continue cleaning daily until the gnats are gone
