Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels
Place the cod on a baking sheet or in a baking dish
Brush or drizzle with olive oil or melted butter
Season with salt and black pepper
Add optional seasonings such as garlic, paprika, lemon zest, or herbs
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on thickness
Check for doneness when the fish flakes easily with a fork
Remove from the oven immediately
Serve with lemon wedges if desired
