How To Season Steak?

Pat steak dry with paper towels

Season both sides generously with kosher salt

Add black pepper to both sides

Optional: add garlic powder and/or onion powder

Optional: add smoked paprika or chili powder

Optional: add dried thyme or rosemary

Optional: drizzle with a small amount of olive oil or neutral oil if using dry seasonings

Let steak sit 15–45 minutes at room temperature

Preheat grill or cast-iron skillet until very hot

Sear steak 2–4 minutes per side (adjust for thickness)

Continue cooking to desired doneness

Rest steak 5–10 minutes before slicing

Optional finishing: rub with butter and/or squeeze of lemon right before serving
