Wash the potatoes thoroughly
Peel the potatoes if desired
Cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces if needed
Place a steamer basket in a pot
Add water to the pot below the bottom of the steamer basket
Bring the water to a boil
Add the potatoes to the steamer basket
Cover the pot with a lid
Steam until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork
Check the water level during steaming and add more if needed
Remove the potatoes from the steamer basket
Serve or use as needed
