Rinse the rice until the water runs mostly clear
Drain the rice
Add rice and water to a pot or rice cooker
Use the correct water ratio for the rice type
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Bring the water to a boil if using a pot
Reduce heat to low and cover tightly
Cook until the water is absorbed
Turn off the heat and let the rice rest covered
Fluff the rice with a fork or rice paddle before serving
