Drink oral rehydration solution or clear fluids in small sips
Eat bland foods such as bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, crackers, or plain potatoes
Avoid dairy, greasy foods, spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks
Take loperamide only if appropriate and not for fever or bloody stool
Take bismuth subsalicylate if appropriate and not allergic to aspirin
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Wash hands frequently and avoid preparing food for others
Seek urgent medical care if there is blood in stool, severe pain, high fever, signs of dehydration, or diarrhea lasting more than 2 days
