Gently wash the area with lukewarm water only
Pat dry with a clean soft towel
Avoid scratching
Apply a cool compress for 10 to 15 minutes
Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear
Change out of sweaty or wet clothes right away
Avoid scented soaps, washes, wipes, and sprays
Avoid douching
Avoid shaving or waxing until the itching stops
Use plain petroleum jelly or a fragrance-free barrier ointment on external skin only
If you suspect a yeast infection, use an over-the-counter antifungal treatment as directed on the package
If you suspect irritation from a new product, stop using it immediately
Avoid sex until the itching improves
Seek medical care if there is severe pain, sores, fever, unusual discharge, bleeding, or if the itching does not improve quickly
