Wash your hands and clean the area with soap and water
Sterilize fine-tipped tweezers with rubbing alcohol
Grasp the tick head as close to the skin as possible
Pull straight out with steady, even pressure
Do not twist, squeeze, or dig at the skin
If the head is deeply embedded, use the tip of a sterile needle to lift it out carefully
If you cannot remove it easily, leave it alone and let the skin heal
Clean the area again with soap and water or antiseptic
Apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment if available
Watch for redness, swelling, pus, fever, or rash
Seek medical care if signs of infection appear or if you cannot remove the embedded part
