Wash your hands thoroughly
Clean the nose ring and the area around it
Hold the jewelry gently with clean fingers or gloves
Identify the type of nose ring
For a stud with a flat back, unscrew or pull the front piece gently
For a screw nose ring, twist it out slowly in the direction that follows the curve
For a hoop with a clasp, open the clasp carefully
For a seamless hoop, twist the ends apart slightly
For a captive bead ring, remove the bead first
Pull the jewelry out slowly and gently
Stop if you feel pain, resistance, or swelling
Use a warm saline soak if the jewelry feels stuck
Seek help from a professional piercer if it will not come out easily
Clean the piercing after removal
