Use fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool
Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible
Pull upward with steady, even pressure
Do not twist, crush, or jerk the tick
If mouthparts remain, remove them with tweezers if possible
Clean the bite area and your hands with soap and water or rubbing alcohol
Dispose of the tick by sealing it in a bag, wrapping it in tape, or flushing it
Watch the bite area for rash, fever, or other symptoms
Seek medical care if you cannot remove the tick, the area becomes infected, or symptoms develop
