How To Test Internet Speed?

Use a reputable speed test website or app (e.g., Ookla Speedtest, Fast.com, Google speed test)

Close other apps or downloads that could affect results

Connect using the device you want to test (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet)

If testing Wi‑Fi, stay close to the router and avoid moving during the test

Run the test at least 3 times

Record download speed, upload speed, ping/latency, and jitter (if shown)

If results vary, test at different times of day

Test both Wi‑Fi and Ethernet (if available) for comparison

Restart the modem/router if you suspect a temporary issue

For Wi‑Fi, test on the same frequency/band (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz) if your router supports it

Use the same server/region selection if the tool allows it

Confirm the device isn’t using VPN or proxy during the test

Check for background usage (cloud sync, streaming, updates) and rerun if needed

Compare results against your plan’s advertised speeds

If speeds are consistently low, test again from another device on the same network

If possible, test from a wired connection to isolate router/Wi‑Fi issues

Document timestamps, device, connection type, and results for troubleshooting
