Finish the last stitch and leave a short tail of thread
Bring the needle to the back side of the fabric
Make a small loop with the thread near the last stitch
Pass the needle through the loop
Pull the thread snug to form a knot
Repeat the loop and knot once or twice for security
Trim the excess thread close to the knot
