How to Tie Shirt for Tie Dye?

Lay the shirt flat on a clean surface

Smooth out all wrinkles

Pinch the center of the shirt where you want the spiral to start

Twist the fabric tightly around that center point

Continue twisting until the shirt forms a flat spiral

Keep the spiral compact and even

Secure the shirt with 3 to 6 rubber bands crossing through the center

Make sure the rubber bands divide the shirt into wedge sections

For a crumple tie, bunch the shirt randomly into a tight ball

Secure the crumpled shirt with several rubber bands

For a stripe pattern, fold the shirt accordion-style

Wrap rubber bands along the folded shirt at intervals

For a bullseye pattern, pinch one spot and pull it upward into a tube

Wrap rubber bands around the tube at regular spacing

Check that the shirt is tight and held firmly before dyeing
