Apply a vet-approved topical treatment
Keep the area clean and dry
Wash bedding and groom regularly to reduce irritation
Monitor for worsening redness, swelling, odor, or discharge
Contact a veterinarian if the hot spot is large, painful, spreading, or not improving within 24 to 48 hours
