Rest and drink plenty of fluids
Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever or pain if appropriate

Avoid spicy, acidic, or salty foods
Use cold foods and drinks to soothe mouth sores
Maintain good hand hygiene
Keep the child home from school or daycare until fever is gone and mouth sores are improving
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
Avoid sharing cups, utensils, towels, or bedding
Keep fingernails short to reduce skin damage from scratching
Seek medical care if dehydration, high fever, severe pain, trouble breathing, or worsening symptoms occur
