Do not try to drain or pop the hematoma at home
Keep your dog from scratching or shaking its head
Use an Elizabethan collar if needed
Apply a cold compress wrapped in cloth for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, a few times a day, if your dog tolerates it
Keep the ear clean and dry
Check for and address the cause of irritation, such as ear infection, mites, allergies, or a foreign object
Give only veterinarian-approved medications
Contact a veterinarian as soon as possible for proper treatment
Seek urgent veterinary care if the ear is very painful, rapidly swelling, bleeding, or your dog seems unwell
