Swallow repeatedly
Yawn often
Chew gum or suck on hard candy
Try the Valsalva maneuver gently: pinch your nose, close your mouth, and blow softly
Try the Toynbee maneuver: pinch your nose and swallow
Use a saline nasal spray
Use a decongestant nasal spray for up to 3 days only, if safe for you
Use an oral decongestant if you can take it safely
Take a hot shower or inhale steam
Apply a warm compress over the affected ear
Stay hydrated
Rest with your head elevated
Avoid forceful nose blowing
Avoid flying again until your cold improves if possible
Seek medical care if you have severe pain, fever, drainage, hearing loss, or symptoms lasting more than a few days
