Remove the foil or capsule covering the bottle top
Center the corkscrew on the cork
Twist the corkscrew into the cork until most of the spiral is inside
Place the lever or fulcrum of the opener on the bottle lip if using a waiter’s corkscrew
Pull the cork up slowly and steadily
Continue until the cork is mostly out
Grip the cork with your hand and twist it out gently
Wipe the bottle neck if needed
Pour the wine carefully
