Park the vehicle or load on level ground
Make sure the load is stable before loosening anything
Wear gloves if needed
Locate the ratchet or buckle mechanism
Release the locking latch or safety catch
Open the ratchet handle fully if using a ratchet strap
Press the release lever if the strap has one
Pull the loose end of the strap to unwind tension
Slowly let the strap retract or unwind
Keep hands clear of pinch points
Remove the hook or end fitting from the anchor point
Coil the strap neatly after removal
Inspect the strap for wear or damage before storing
Store the strap in a dry place
