Blow your nose gently
Pinch your nostrils and take a few slow breaths through your nose
Rinse with saline spray or saline nasal rinse
Apply a warm compress to your nose and cheeks for 1–3 minutes
Take a steamy shower or inhale steam for 5–10 minutes
Use a humidifier in the room
Stay hydrated and drink warm fluids
Try gentle nasal massage along the sides of the nose and under the eyes
Use a decongestant nasal spray (e.g., oxymetazoline or xylometazoline) sparingly for up to 3 days
Use an oral decongestant only if safe for you (follow label directions)
If allergies are likely, use an antihistamine and/or an allergy nasal spray (e.g., fluticasone) as directed
Change positions, especially sitting up and leaning slightly forward
Avoid smoke, strong odors, and cold/dry air
