Hold the compass flat in your hand.
Keep the compass away from metal objects, magnets, and electronic devices.
Find the direction you want to travel.
Rotate your body until the compass needle aligns with north on the compass face.
If your compass has a rotating bezel, rotate the bezel until the direction mark points to your target direction.
Read the bearing from the index line on the compass face.
Start walking in the direction of the direction-of-travel arrow.
While moving, keep the needle aligned with north.
Recheck the bearing at regular intervals and at turns.
If you need to travel to a new point, repeat alignment and bearing setup.
