How to Use a Grill?

Read the grill’s manual

Place the grill outdoors on a stable, nonflammable surface

Keep the grill away from buildings, overhangs, and dry materials

Check that the grill is clean

Inspect gas hoses, connections, and tank for leaks or damage

Open the lid before lighting a gas grill

Turn on the gas and ignite the burners

Light charcoal with a chimney starter or approved starter

Let coals burn until covered with gray ash

Preheat the grill with the lid closed

Oil the grates lightly if needed

Place food on the grates

Use direct heat for quick-cooking foods

Use indirect heat for larger or slower-cooking foods

Turn food with tongs or a spatula

Keep the lid closed as much as possible

Monitor food temperature with a thermometer

Avoid cross-contamination between raw and cooked food

Use oven mitts and long-handled tools

Adjust vents or burner settings to control heat

Add more charcoal or adjust gas as needed

Remove food when fully cooked

Turn off gas burners and close the tank valve

Let charcoal cool completely before disposal

Clean the grates and empty ash after use

Store the grill safely when cool
