How To Use A Walker?

Adjust the walker to wrist height when standing upright

Stand inside the walker with both feet centered

Hold the walker grips firmly

Move the walker forward a short distance

Step forward with the weaker or injured leg first

Step forward with the stronger leg next

Keep your weight balanced and upright

Take small, controlled steps

Move the walker only as far as you can safely reach

Check that all walker legs are stable before each step

Use the walker on level, dry surfaces when possible

Turn slowly by taking small steps

Sit down only after the walker is stable

Stand up by pushing from the chair, not pulling on the walker

Keep the walker close to your body

Wear non-slip shoes

Follow your doctor or therapist’s instructions
