How to Wax Cross Country Skis at Home?

Clean the ski base with a ski-specific base cleaner or a soft cloth and mild cleaner

Let the skis dry completely

Secure the skis on a stable workbench or ski vise

Choose the correct wax for your snow temperature and conditions

For grip wax skis, roughen the kick zone lightly with sandpaper if needed

Apply a thin, even layer of wax to the kick zone for classic skis

Cork or smooth the wax until it is even

Apply glide wax to the tip and tail sections if waxing classic skis

For skate skis, apply glide wax over the entire base

Heat the glide wax with a waxing iron and drip it onto the base

Spread the wax evenly with the iron in smooth passes

Do not leave the iron in one spot

Let the ski cool completely

Scrape off excess wax with a plastic scraper

Brush the base with a nylon brush to remove leftover wax and open the structure

Finish with a finer brush if desired

Wipe the ski clean with a soft cloth

Repeat the process for the second ski

Store skis in a cool, dry place after waxing

Rewax regularly based on snow conditions and ski use
