How To Use A Digital Multimeter?

Set the multimeter to the correct measurement type

Select AC or DC as needed

Plug the black probe into COM

Plug the red probe into the correct input jack

Touch the probe tips to the test points

Read the value on the display

Use the voltage setting to measure voltage

Use the current setting to measure current

Use the resistance setting to measure resistance

Use the continuity setting to check for a closed circuit

Turn off power before measuring resistance or continuity

Start with the highest range if the meter is not auto-ranging

Move the red probe to the current jack when measuring current

Return the red probe to the voltage jack after measuring current

Avoid touching exposed metal probe tips

Remove probes from the circuit after each measurement

Turn the meter off when finished
