Turn off the circuit or device before connecting the meter
Set the multimeter to the correct current mode: A, mA, or µA
Move the red probe to the correct current input jack
Leave the black probe in the COM jack
Break the circuit so current must pass through the meter
Connect the meter in series with the circuit
Turn the circuit back on
Read the amperage display
Start with the highest current range if unsure
Move to a lower range for a more precise reading if needed
Turn off power before removing the meter
Return the red probe to the voltage/resistance jack after testing
