Turn off power to the circuit
Disconnect the component if needed
Set the multimeter to resistance mode (Ω)
Plug the probes into the correct ports
Touch the red and black probes together to check the meter
Place the probes across the resistor or component terminals
Read the resistance value on the display
If the display shows OL or infinity, increase the range or check for an open circuit
Remove the probes after taking the reading
