Put on disposable gloves
Remove any solid material with paper towels or a plastic scraper
Blot up as much liquid as possible with clean paper towels or a white cloth
Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water
Dampen a clean cloth with the solution
Blot the stain from the outside toward the center
Repeat with clean cloths until the area is lifted
Rinse the spot by blotting with a cloth dampened with plain water
Blot dry with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the area to help absorb odor
Let the baking soda sit for several hours or overnight
Vacuum the baking soda thoroughly
If odor remains, apply a carpet-safe enzyme cleaner according to the label
Test any cleaner on a hidden area first
Avoid scrubbing hard to prevent spreading the stain
Use a wet-dry vacuum if the spill is large
Open windows or use a fan to help the carpet dry faster
