How to Find Electrons on Periodic Table?

For a neutral atom, the number of electrons equals the atomic number

Find the atomic number on the periodic table

Use that atomic number as the electron count

For ions, adjust the electron count based on the charge

Positive charge means fewer electrons than the atomic number

Negative charge means more electrons than the atomic number

Electrons = atomic number – positive charge

Electrons = atomic number + negative charge
