Use a stovetop pot with a lid
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil to the pot
Heat the oil over medium heat
Add 2 to 3 popcorn kernels to the pot
Cover the pot and wait for the test kernels to pop
Add enough popcorn kernels to make a single layer in the pot
Cover the pot again and shake it gently while the popcorn pops
Remove the pot from the heat when popping slows to 2 to 3 seconds between pops
Let it sit for 30 seconds before opening the lid
Pour the popcorn into a bowl
Add salt or other seasonings if desired
