Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, and tight clothing near the burn
Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick sterile dressing or cling film
Take over-the-counter pain relief such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen if safe for you
Keep the burned area elevated if possible
Avoid ice, butter, toothpaste, oils, or home remedies
Do not break blisters
Seek urgent medical care for large, deep, facial, hand, foot, genital, or chemical/electrical burns
Get medical help if pain is severe, worsening, or signs of infection appear
