Open the ratchet handle fully
Thread the strap through the center slot of the ratchet spool
Pull the slack through until the strap is snug
Make sure the strap is flat and not twisted
Close and pump the ratchet handle to tighten the strap
Stop tightening when the load is secure
Lock the ratchet handle closed
Check that the strap is centered and secure
Tie off or secure any loose strap ends
To release, open the ratchet handle fully and pull the strap out
