Grip the cutter like a four-seam fastball, with the index and middle fingers slightly off-center toward the outside edge of the ball
Place the thumb underneath for support and balance
Hold the ball with a firm but relaxed grip
Keep your wrist straight at release
Throw with fastball arm speed
Release the ball slightly off the side of your fingers to create late glove-side movement
Stay behind the ball as long as possible
Finish your throwing motion normally
Aim for a fastball target and let the movement happen naturally
Practice the grip and release at reduced intensity before throwing it at full speed
