How to Replace Flange for Toilet?

Turn off the water supply to the toilet

Flush the toilet to empty the tank and bowl

Sponge out any remaining water

Disconnect the water supply line from the tank

Remove the toilet bolts and lift the toilet off the flange

Set the toilet aside on a protected surface

Scrape away old wax and debris from the flange area

Inspect the subfloor and flange for damage

Remove the old flange if it is broken or corroded

Clean the pipe opening and surrounding floor

Dry-fit the new flange to confirm proper size and alignment

Position the new flange over the drain pipe

Secure the new flange to the floor with screws

Use flange repair parts or spacers if needed for height

Install a new wax ring or wax-free seal on the flange or toilet

Lower the toilet straight down onto the flange

Press the toilet evenly to seat it properly

Reinstall and tighten the toilet bolts evenly

Reconnect the water supply line

Turn the water supply back on

Flush the toilet and check for leaks

Caulk around the toilet base if desired, leaving the back open
