Wash the beet thoroughly
Trim off the leaves and roots
Peel the beet if desired
Cut into slices, cubes, or wedges
Boil in water until tender
Steam until soft
Roast wrapped in foil or on a baking tray
Cool slightly before handling
Peel off the skin after cooking if needed
Serve plain or season as desired
